FAQs

How are books arranged in the Downtown Campus Learning Commons?

The Downtown Learning Commons uses the Library of Congress classification system to organize books. The call number is a combination of letters and numbers. The label on the book shows the call number.

All non-fiction books, including reference books, are shelved on the 2nd floor according to the Library of Congress call number.

Graphic novels and fiction books are shelved in separate areas on the 1st floor of the Learning Commons. The call numbers for these books consist of the first five letters of the author’s last name.

The Learning Commons also has a children's book collection on the 2nd floor. These books are organized by last name. Additionally, award winning children's books has its own section, also organized by last name and then by award.
