How do I use the scanner in the Downtown Learning Commons?

There are two scanners available at the Downtown Learning Commons.

Instructions for the scanner located near the Computer Help Desk, which labelled with a sign saying "This computer is for scanning only":

  1. Log into the computer.
  2. Open “EPSON Scan” from the desktop (the icon is a scanner with the lid open).
  3. Open the lid of the scanner and place the document on the glass, face down in the corner with the arrow, near where it says “EPSON PERFECTION V30”.
  4. Hit the “Scan” button on the computer.
  5. When the scan is complete, the program will close and a File Explorer window will open with the scanned image named “IMG” followed by a three-digit number, e.g. “IMG001”, “IMG002” and so forth.

Instructions for the scanner located in front of the copy machine and room 111.

  1. Log into the computer in front of the copy machine and room 111. The computer has a label on it that says “JF-DTB100-027” and has the black Epson scanner just to the left.
  2. Open the Epson scanning app titled “Epson ES-400_II_ES_500W.” The icon is round and has a picture of two paper documents inside.
  3. If a "Welcome to Microsoft Edge" window pops up, select “confirm and continue.”
  4. In the navigation menu on the left side of the screen, select the “scanning” menu.
  5. In the sub menu, select “starting a scan,” and then “starting a scan from the scanner button.”
  6. Load your documents face down, top end first into the Epson scanner and adjust the gray slides so they are flush against the side of your documents.
  7. Press the start button on the scanner, which is a blue diamond with a vertical line in the middle.
  8. After the documents pass through the scanner, an Epson smart scan window will appear on the computer screen. Check the images of your documents to ensure the scan was successful and click next.
  9. From here, select what you would like to do with the documents from the options in the menu. You can save, attach to email, upload to Google Docs or Dropbox. Make your selection and follow the prompts on the screen.
