FAQs

Where can I find more information about immigration?

It's important to understand your legal rights.

  • You have the right to remain silent.

  • You have the right to speak with an attorney and have them present.

  • If you cannot afford an attorney, you have the right to have one appointed for you (unless you've been detained by ICE).

  • You do not have to consent to a search of you or your belongings.

  • You do not have to allow officers into your home without a warrant, signed by a judge

  • You must invoke your rights by stating them clearly (ex: “I'm invoking my right to remain silent;" “I want to speak with an attorney.”)

For more information, visit KCTCS Student Legal Resources.

You can also pick up a Know Your Rights Red Card at Learning Commons.
